Profile

Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung GmbH (MDM) is the public funding body in the central region of Germany (Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia). Shareholders are the three federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia and the two German public broadcasters Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF). Since its foundation in 1998 MDM has also been supporting economically promising new media projects. From 2001 on, funding in this area has been mainly targeted at games. Moreover, digitalization and convergence of media create new types of storytelling, thus new media concepts and format types are welcome.

Mission

  • support of economically promising transmedia and game projects
  • strengthening of the regional economic infrastructure and support of regional game developers and transmedia players
  • industry growth

Activities

Funding can be granted as conditionally repayable, interest free loans. Apart from a high quality of the project in terms of content and game play as well as economic and technical know-how of the developer, important criteria for funding are sustainable economic effects in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt or Thuringia.

Furthermore, MDM supports hands-on training and qualification opportunities for developers in the region.
